Which one do you think is essential skill to go to study abroad?
General language skills. I'm not talking about being able to speak a foreign language, but the ability to generally understand how a language works.
That is very helpful.
Reply:adaptation skills are the most important. i´m in spain now, i speak spanish beautifully, but the whole thing is really going under because i refuse to adapt to their ridiculous culture. you have to be able to put aside some of your habits and pick up some new ones, even if only for a few months. also open mindedness.
Reply:communication - you should be at least slightly familiar with their language and culture.
Reply:You have to be able to adapt. Even if you don't speak the language well, you have to be able to adapt to living under different conditions. You have to be open to eating different foods, doing different activities, doing things on a different schedule, and (if you're living with a host family) you have to be open to working with the way a different family works. This is more important than being able to speak the language fluently or anything else. If you can adapt, you're probably going to be miserable. If you can, however, you'll probably have a great time, even if you can't always communicate well and don't always know what's going on around you.
Reply:I'm in japan now for a study abroud. If their was a skill i could have more of, it would be self confidence.
Self-confidence is probably the most important trait you will need.
