What type of clothing should I purchase to study abroad in Italy.?

In six months im leaving for Italy to Study for a semester. What types of clothing should I be buying. Ive never really been a trendy guy but I would like to fit in and not look out of place there. Also, money is going to be very tight because of this trip so i obviously wont be able to afford all the best stuff. Any tips for me?

You should take some different types, some branded, some vintage stuff so there is definitely a chance of fitting in! Because if you take loads of branded stuff and they are all really preppy then you will definitely not fit in. Take lots of shorts and tees if you are going to the south cos it's very hot there!

And take some warmer stuff for the north because the climate is radically different.

Sounds like a great trip, have fun:)
Reply:Hi, I studied abroad in Italy and aslo wanted to look great and fit in. Italians are VERY fashionable, but they truly have their own look that you can't easily replicate from abroad. I would recommend getting some basics, but do most of your shopping over there. I know the exchange rate is killer for us, but they have a lot of affordable shops because they just love fashion so much.

With that said, they also into American style, so if you wanted to stand out in that regard, I would go for an edgy Pete Wentz kind of look. Think places like Metro Park, French Connection to shop. Stay away from "classic" American looks like Eddie Bauer, Tommy H., Express, etc. They just come across as cheesy and mass produced abroad.
Reply:Are you from the U.S? If so, Target has some trendy (w/out being obnoxious) clothes for someone on a budget. Italy gets hot, so keep that in mind.
