Is Northern Ireland safe for minorities to study abroad?

I was planning on studying abroad in Northern Ireland, but recently started reading reports about the drastic increase in racially motivated hate crimes in Northern Ireland. I'm very nervous now and am having second thoughts. Please only respond if you can answer me honestly and you have experience to base your answer on. Also, please don't turn this conversation into one about Catholics and Protestants, I'm wondering only about minorities, specifically African Americans. Thanks, it's very important!

It is quite safe to work and live in N. Ireland. Your worries are unfounded.
Reply:im with you on that too...im currently looking for a safe place to study abroad. The fact of the matter is (%26amp; as all of my professors said), where ever you go, there's going to be dangers lurking around the corner...but since you are a student, i would GUESS that they'd take better care of you (just so that their study abroad company looks good)...as long as you know that there isn't blatant war (Iraq) or protesting (Mexico), then i'd say that it's an ok place (not that thoes places are bad to study at...)...its a common sense thing really...if you have second thoughts, then avoid it...happy searching =]
