How many bags should I pack for 3 months study abroad?

Okay I'm going to Osaka, Japan next spring for study abroad but I do not know how many bags I should pack for 3 months. I will be staying with a family so I do not need household wares really but I have never been away from my home for over 3 months so I do not know what to take. I know I can buy the essentials over there like shampoo, toothpaste, etc. The number of bags I want to take is endless but the number I can carry is what I need to know. This is my first trip on a plane so I do not know how people can have 5 or more bags with them moving about at the airport. I'm also going 2 be changing planes as well so I need to be somewhat mobile. If you can help please do so. Even personal experiences are fine with me. The more I know, the better. (^.^)

I could manage with one large duffel bag, but thats me. I'm a traveller, not a tourist. Most people can get buy with two bags this size. A hint though, don't assume the weather will always be cool, the weather in Japan is very sporadic, so pack a variation of clothes.
Reply:There is a weight allowance on planes, and you get charged extra for exceeding it. Call the airline beforehand to find out what it is. Have fun in Japan!!
Reply:Well...I guess one huge bowl of clothes ). Like couple (3 or 4) of pairs of underwear, couple of Tshirts, light sweaters, couple of jeans. I'm sure your're looking after yourself carefuly so u will try to get everything cleaned often. U're wearing one sweater while another is being cleaned. If u'll need some more clothing U'll be able to buy it there, I guess. Sneakers and light sandals.

PS: If I were in your shoes, I would take as much as I could ) hehe
