I am planning on going abroad, but from what I've heard, it's very diffucult to do so and still graduate on time. I would like to earn credits that apply twords my major, but my college usually doesn't give anything but 5 or 6 foreign language credits.
Does anyone know how to study abroad and still get 12-18 credits a semester?
Look at programs that are sponsored or co-sponsored by your school. For instance, my school sponsors programs that many majors are willing to grant credit for. You could also see if you could get credit for an internship abroad. Getting credit for going abroad really just depends on your school's programs and the major that you have chosen.
Reply:Hmm it may vary by school, but sometimes you can take classes at a school abroad in classes that aren't just foriegn language. If you go to say England, you could pick up a history or pyschology course to help you move along in your studies. Or, you could double up on your other semesters so this would be a lighter load. Or, you could go abroad over the summer and not lose any credits, and still be able to experience a new culture. Good luck!
Reply:Depending on the University, and how good of the ties between the them and the Universities abroad. It is very much possible to be a full-time student when doing a study abroad with most Universities. Unless you goto a significantly smaller University then problems might arise, but I've had a sister who has done study abroad for two semesters from Fisk University, and she graduated on time, and during this period she was taking 15 credit hours each semester. Like I said it depends on your University. You should ask your student life services, or international exchange student program advisors. They'll tell you want you need to know.
